It works by leaving metal, not ink. The alloy tip deposits a trace of itself onto the paper fibres, which reads as a soft graphite grey line. There is no cartridge to dry out, leak in a bag or run out mid-signature, and nothing to throw away when it is finished — the pen simply wears down over thousands of metres.

The eco case here is real and worth stating precisely. Bamboo is rapidly renewable rather than recycled, and the genuine saving is the consumable: a conventional promotional pen is a plastic body plus a plastic refill that both get binned. This one removes the refill from the equation entirely. That is a cleaner claim than most pens marketed as eco.

Set expectations before you order 500. An inkless pen writes a line that is lighter than a ballpoint and it will not write on glossy or coated stock. It is excellent on ordinary paper and notebooks, and it is a conversation piece — most recipients have never seen one, which is most of its value as a giveaway.
