The straps are what make this usable in Singapore. Rope cuts bark, and most park boards take a dim view of it. The wide webbing straps supplied here spread the load across the trunk, which is the difference between a hammock you can hang in a park and one you can only hang at home. Each strap carries a row of sewn loops, so you clip the carabiner into whichever loop gives you the sag you want rather than re-tying anything.
