Ring File Mechanisms & Capacity Singapore: 2-Ring, 4-Ring, D-Ring vs O-Ring
The ring mechanism is the part of a ring file you never think about — until it jams, won’t close, or holds far fewer pages than you needed. Choosing the right mechanism and capacity is the difference between a customised ring file that works for years and one that frustrates daily. Here’s a plain guide.
The 30-second version: 2-ring is simplest, 4-ring holds pages more securely; D-ring holds more pages flatter than O-ring; match the spine size to how many pages you need to file. Our default MOQ is 200 pieces, though it isn’t strict — smaller runs are often possible when a style is in stock or the artwork is simplified.
Ring mechanisms
| Mechanism | Character |
|---|---|
| 2-ring | Simple, common, easy to find punched paper |
| 4-ring | Holds pages more securely, less tearing |
| O-ring (round) | Standard, economical, pages curve at spine |
| D-ring | Pages lie flat, holds ~25% more capacity |
Capacity & spine size
The ring size (e.g. 25mm, 40mm, 50mm) sets how many pages the file holds — bigger rings, more capacity. A D-ring uses the spine space more efficiently and lets pages lie flat, so it holds more than an O-ring of the same size and is easier to read — worth it for thick manuals. For occasional, lighter filing, a 2-ring O-ring file is fine and economical. For how ring files compare to lever arch and binders, see our ring file vs lever arch comparison.
Match it to the use

Frequently asked questions
D-ring or O-ring file?
A D-ring holds pages flatter and fits roughly 25% more capacity than an O-ring of the same size, making it better for thick manuals. An O-ring file is economical for lighter, occasional filing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Our default MOQ is 200 pieces, but it isn’t strict — smaller runs are often possible when a style is in stock or the artwork is simplified.
