The moment a recipient touches the plush toy, the fabric communicates quality. Crystal velvet and minky feel premium. Standard velboa feels functional. Long-pile feels playful and soft. Each sends a different brand signal.

02 — Branding Compatibility

Not every branding method works on every fabric. Sublimation requires polyester. Embroidery works on all fabrics but stitches sink into long-pile. Screen printing needs a flat, low-texture surface. Get this wrong and your logo degrades.

03 — Colour Accuracy

Plush fabric is dyed in batches. Crystal velvet holds Pantone colour more accurately than long-pile fabrics, where the pile direction causes colour variance at different viewing angles.

04 — Unit Cost

Premium fabrics like minky add cost per unit. For a 500-piece order the difference is meaningful. Choosing the right fabric for your use case — not always the most expensive one — is the right commercial decision.

Not ideal for: Orders where budget is tight and the tactile premium is not a brand requirement. The higher unit cost of crystal velvet only makes commercial sense when touch quality is a key part of the gift experience.

Not ideal for: Orders where a sharp, fine-detail logo needs to appear directly on the plush body. Use crystal velvet instead if direct-body sublimation or high-resolution embroidery is required.

Recommended for: Most Singapore B2B and event orders. If you are not sure which fabric to specify, velboa is the reliable default that produces consistent, professional results across all standard branding methods.

⚠️ Critical Branding Limitation

Long-pile plush is not suitable for direct-body branding via sublimation or screen printing. The deep pile absorbs and diffuses ink unevenly, producing blurred, unprofessional results. Embroidery is technically possible but requires a very thick stabilising backing and even then stitches may be partially obscured by the surrounding pile. If your custom plush toy order specifies long-pile fabric, plan for all branding to be carried by a sewn-on accessory (T-shirt, gown, bandana) or hang tag rather than on the body directly.

Use long-pile for: Display mascots, photo-prop plush, children’s event characters, oversized prizes. Do not use for: Any order where a logo or text needs to appear directly on the plush body surface.

PP Cotton Fill

The universal standard

PP cotton (polypropylene cotton, also called polyester fibrefill) is the standard fill for virtually all custom plush toys in Singapore. It is lightweight, hypoallergenic, non-toxic, odourless, and washable. When compressed, it springs back to shape. Fill density can be adjusted — a tightly filled toy holds its shape better and feels firmer; a loosely filled toy is squishier and more huggable.

Bean Fill (PVC or PE Pellets)

For weighted, poseable, or keychain plush

Bean fill uses small plastic pellets (PVC or PE) in the base or limbs of the toy, giving it a weighted, settled posture that allows it to sit upright on a desk without toppling. It is used in beanbag-style plush, plush keychains (where the weight creates a satisfying heft), and the base of standing mascot figures. Often combined with PP cotton — pellets in the base, cotton in the head and body.

Which fabric is most commonly used for custom soft toys in Singapore?

Velboa is the most common fabric for standard B2B orders — stock plush with accessories, graduation bears, and corporate event giveaways. Crystal velvet fur is the premium default for fully custom mascot plush where colour accuracy and tactile quality are priorities. Minky is chosen for high-end gifting contexts where softness is the primary quality signal.

Can I match my brand’s Pantone colour with plush fabric?

Plush fabric is dyed, not printed, so exact Pantone matching is not always achievable — particularly at standard order quantities. Crystal velvet and velboa hold colour the most consistently and allow the closest approximation. Your supplier will provide a colour swatch reference and confirm the closest available fabric shade before production begins. If exact colour match is critical, request a pre-production sample (prototype) with the confirmed fabric swatch for your approval.

Are all plush fabrics safe for children?

All four fabrics listed in this guide are non-toxic and hypoallergenic when sourced to EN71 or ASTM F963 standards. The fabric itself is not the primary safety variable — the construction is. Eyes must be embroidered (not button-fitted) for children under 3, and bean fill pellets pose a choke hazard if seams fail on toys intended for very young children. Always flag the intended age group when placing your order so the production team can apply the appropriate safety specifications.

I want to add my logo directly on the plush body — which fabric should I choose?

For direct-body embroidery, crystal velvet and velboa both produce excellent results. For sublimation printing directly on the body, crystal velvet is the best choice. Avoid minky and long-pile for direct-body branding — minky requires a stabilising backing for embroidery and produces blurred sublimation results; long-pile is not suitable for any direct-body print method.
