Custom PVC Key Topper, Moulded Key Cap with Ball Chain

A custom key topper is a moulded soft PVC cap that fits over the head of a flat key, made in a shape you supply, with a silver ball chain and a full colour printed backing card. Up to four moulded colours on both sides. We supply and brand the key topper; we do not manufacture it.

A custom key topper is not a keychain, and the difference decides which one you want. A keychain hangs off the ring as a separate charm. A topper sits on the key itself, covering the bow, so the key is identified at a glance in a bunch — which is the entire point for a building, a fleet, a storeroom or a set of handover keys. Our moulded PVC keychain is the cheaper item at around a fifth of the price and is the right call for a mass giveaway. The topper costs more because each unit is moulded as a fitted cap in a bespoke shape, not a flat charm, and it arrives carded. Buy the keychain for volume. Buy the topper when the key needs to be told apart.

The shape is the product, so spend the thinking there. Because the tooling is cut for your outline, a topper can be a building, a vehicle, a mascot, a product silhouette or a logo mark rather than a disc with printing on it. Four moulded colours per side is enough for most brand marks and simple illustration. Fine gradients and photographic detail will not survive the moulding process, so flatten the artwork to solid colour areas before you brief it and keep any lettering above roughly 3mm or it will fill in.

The backing card does more work than it looks. At 60 x 90mm with full colour digital print on it, the card turns a loose rubber object into something that reads as a gift when handed over or dropped into a pack. It also gives you a surface for a message, a QR code or a campaign line that the topper itself has no room for. If the toppers are going into a goodie bag rather than onto a keyring at a counter, the card is what stops them looking like a spare part.

Five hundred pieces is half a carton. A full carton holds 1,000 toppers at 52 x 30 x 30cm, 0.05 cubic metres and 16kg, so the minimum run is about 8kg of freight. It suits property handovers and showflat launches, fleet and logistics operators, school and campus campaigns, museum and attraction retail, and tourism souvenirs where a recognisable local shape does the selling.
